Saatchi Yates Presents Angela Santana Exhibition Reinterpreting the Male Gaze

This month, Saatchi Yates presents a powerful new exhibition by New York-based artist Angela Santana: Reconsidering the Power of the Female Painter: A Rejection of the Male Gaze Through the Lens of the Internet as a Modern-Day Muse. The exhibition will bring together 14 large-scale oil paintings in an exploration and rejection of the male fantasy.

An empowering subversion of the male gaze, the new exhibition will see Santana turn her attention to the Internet and embrace it as her modern-day muse to transform the female body from object to subject. Working with the mass of illicit images online, the artist mirrors its vast demand in society, observing the history of the female body in the arts and its lasting influence in today’s digital age.

Runs until 31st August.
