Rising singer-songwriter Maddie Ashmen returns with the autobiographical “I’d Rather Fall”, an emotional pop tune filled with vibrant instrumentation.

Mixing the experimental with the classical, Maddie Ashman is making uncompromising music for broken hearts. A distinctive vocal range and ear for vibrant instrumentation has won over tastemakers on BBC 6 Music and merited her high-profile festival slots at Lattitude. “I’d Rather Fall”, the singer’s latest single, is an autobiographical account of her own experiences with unrequited love.

Maddie’s musical talents don’t stop at her unwavering songwriting abilities. In 2022, she came third in the international microtonal guitar competition, an instrument she’s pioneered throughout her discography. Since releasing her EP ‘Apparently’, she’s gone from strength to strength, winning fans in the calibre of Tom Grennan along the way.

An emotional pop tune, with infectious swirling melodies, “I’d Rather Fall” embeds Maddie further into the fabric of British music. Capturing the universal experience of falling in love, it was originally an acoustic single, but after working with producer Nathan Cox, the narrative was brought to life with delicately layered audio tracks. On the tune, she says: “I’d Rather Fall” is about inevitably falling in love when you hadn’t planned to, it’s about the simultaneous thrill and terror of letting go and running with your feelings.”
