Madonna-approved DJ Chmba provides a mix with sunsets and dancefloors in mind, fusing elements of Afro-house, amapiano and afrobeats.

How did you choose the tracks to put this mix together?

I went in with a plan, thinking ‘I’ll flow this way’, but after the first track I was like, ‘Nah this song would fit better’ and started scrolling through my 15,000+ songs. It all flowed smoothly, driven by dance and my new EP, ‘Okongola Caucus’. This is a collection of electronic hits with Afro-house vibes, doses of amapiano and Afrobeats. It’s undeniable.

Was there any external influence or inspirations?

When I mix I want each song to speak to the other and share instrumentation to create something new. I am inspired by the mixing techniques of An.DKid Fonque and Sippin’T.

Where do you imagine people listening to the mix?

I first imagined a groovy sundown vibe, with cocktails, but then it started getting too hot; no one is getting off the dance floor at this point, it’s for the club. It’s a sweet vibe mix, you could bump it on a Wednesday or a Friday at the office or on the weekend with some drinks at your favourite rooftop, watching the sunset.
