Soccer Mommy is leading a wave of Bandcamp-based bedroom pop revolutionaries. With her debut album dropping on Friday, we spoke to her for this week's Internet Crush.

Social media has changed the way we interact with our favourite artists. More than just musicians, they’re now personalities, people we can interact with on the daily. Now more than ever we’re aware that musicians are pretty normal people, they just have a weird job. Every week we get to know one of our favourite SoundCloud heroes, internet dating style, in our new column, Internet Crush.

If the new wave of neon-hued trap currently ruling hip-hop is best summed up as SoundCloud rap, then the new wave of guitar music should be known as Bandcamp pop. A broad spectrum of music, from the blues-tinged howlers of Yellow Days to the sad girl indie of Snail Mail, the world of Bandcamp pop is bursting with new singer-songwriter talent, and chief among them is Soccer Mommy.

Hailing from the city of the songwriter, Nashville, Soccer Mommy makes atmospheric rock-tinged indie, often on her own but occasionally with a full band. Her songs deal with everything from the frustration of being in your late teens and early twenties to the pain of heartbreak. After building a fanbase through Bandcamp and the Nashville DIY scene over the last few years this Friday she’ll release her debut album Clean. We caught some time with her in the midst of her relentless US tour for this week’s Internet Crush.
