Levi’s have just teamed up with Studio Ghibli for a fantastical Princess Mononoke capsule, inspired by the hand-painted features of the film.
In the past few years, Studio Ghibli have had a string of highly-successful tie-ups, from high-end labels LOEWE and PORTER, to the high street’s UNIQLO. Now, it’s Levi’s turn to interpret the uniquely-styled animations of the legendary Japanese film studio. Drawing attention back to the studio’s first international hit, Princess Mononoke, the collection is an expansive and vibrant tribute to the hand-painted immersive realistic style of the 1997 film.
For this link-up, Levi’s have drawn on their most-loved silhouettes, from 501s jeans to denim trucker jackets, which have been printed with depictions of the forest Princess Mononoke spent her early years. This print is also available on bucket hats and bags. The powerful Forest Spirit returns in all its might on overalls and a collarless kimono-style denim jacket. Naturally, there’s also plenty of representation of Princess Mononoke herself, as well as Prince Ashitaka, as she’s printed onto T-shirts and hoodies.
The Levi’s x Princess Mononoke collection drops August 10th online and at select Levi’s stores. And, given the lightning-fast selling out of Studio Ghibli’s past fashion capsules, we’d suggest moving quick.
