Lewys Ball is our newest columnist, casting an eye over everything you might've missed this week, from iconic looks to not-so-iconic moments. The first edition includes Julia Fox, a shredded £10,000 and the beginning of the end of Twitter.

Hello! My name is Lewys Ball and I’m super excited to share the very first of my fortnightly column with Notion. After spending over ten years chronically online, and far too involved in other people’s business, I’m here to tell you all what you need to watch, wear, see and know about.

This week saw some controversial moments from Twitter, the reinvention of the kilt, chats of Kanye West’s penis size and a seventeen hour rave (spoiler alert: I did not make it to hour seventeen).

What to Watch

Julia Fox on Ziwe

‘Ziwe’ is a show on Showtime which sees Ziwe Fumudoh ask guests questions you won’t see asked anywhere else. The show will make you cringe and laugh at the same time, with season one seeing guests such as Emily Ratajkowski, Chet Hanks and Mia Khalifa. Season two has just premiered and in the first episode, Ziwe speaks to the infamous Julia Fox, covering topics such as Kanye West’s penis size and how she has no natural blonde friends.

Iconic Look

Maya Jama at the GQ Men of the Year Awards

It’s very rare for Maya Jama to step out the house and miss with her outfit, and she did not disappoint with her look for the GQ Men of the Year awards. Styled by Georgia Medley, she wore Monot with a custom hood detail paired with graphic liner and vintage Valentino earrings.

What to Wear

Kilts

Layered over jeans or worn like a traditional Scot, I can’t stop seeing kilts everywhere this autumn. The likes of Dua Lipa have been sporting a collection of kilts from the brand reinventing the skirt, Chopova Lowena. Whilst one of their multi tartan kilts still remain on my wish list, I opted out after seeing the price point and picked mine up on eBay for a fraction of the price thanks to someone having a wardrobe clear out.

Soundtrack of the Week

“Pro Freak” by Doechii, Smino & Fatman Scoop

I first discovered Doechii earlier this year with her single “Crazy”, and the remix of her single “Persuasive” with SZA was another firm favourite of mine. Since this track appeared on my release radar a few weeks ago, it’s been on repeat thanks to Doechii’s addictive flow.

Who to Follow

@zamarvelez

Zamar Velez is a photographer from LA who I discovered after he released his first photobook called “Tummy Ache!”. He’s shot a range of people from Millie Bobby Brown to Steve-O, to Lil Nas X for YSL Beauty. Between the A-List subjects and the late 90s inspiration, Zamar’s pictures are always a firm favourite when they appear on my timeline.

Event of the Week

The 17 Hour Diesel x NTS Radio Rave

Not for the faint hearted, Diesel teamed up with NTS radio to host a rave at E1 Studios highlighting London’s club culture, including sets hosted by Pxssy Palace and Adonis, and performances from the likes of Ivorian Doll. The ‘night’ lasted from 6pm Saturday to 11am Sunday with coffee machines available around the venue to help those there make it until the end. I had to tap out around 5am before the sun started to rise.

Iconic Moment of the Week

Joe Lycett “Shreds £10,000”

In an open letter to David Beckham, the comedian announced he would donate £10,000 to LGBTQ+ charities if Beckham pulled out of his relationship with Qatar before the first day of the World Cup, due to the country’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues. If not, he would shred it. Beckham did not respond, and Lycett set social media on fire posting a video shredding £10,000. Later in the week, he revealed the money he shredded was fake, with his intentions of creating conversation and awareness around the issue successful.

Not-So Iconic Moment of the Week

The Start of the End for Twitter

I thought we were doomed when Elon Musk bought Twitter, however I didn’t think it would happen this quickly. With the app already starting to crash and the likes of Andrew Tate and Kanye West rejoining the platform, the future isn’t looking bright for my favourite social media platform.
