Harry Jay releases smooth new single “Make it Better”.

Based in Los Angeles, Harry Jay is an artist merging RnB and neo-soul elements for his own jazz-infused sound, dubbed by some as “the musical love child of Miguel and The Weeknd”. Back with a new single, “Make it Better” encapsulates the feelings of trying to fix a failing relationship, and as the title implies, make the situation ‘better’.

Originally from the Washington, DC area, Harry picked up piano at the age of just 5. By 12, he’d written a full-length song, and he was playing guitar and bass by 15. Alongside his own musical development, he cites the likes of Marvin Gaye, Steely Dan, and Stevie Wonder, as well as 90s hip hop acts such as Nas and Tupac, as formative influences during these years. Attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music, he formed, led, and toured as part of a 7-piece jazz piece. Subsequently launching a solo venture, Harry ended up in Los Angeles and has since released 6 singles and amassed over 400,000 Spotify streams.

Now also known for his viral “anyone can sing” series on TikTok, this became a springboard for Jay’s vocal coaching of young stars such as kevboyperry and mother victory. Speaking on his new single, he describes “Make it better” as “entirely about mood,” continuing, “the instrumental embodies a sexy, sultry groove that represents the feeling a couple can have when things aren’t going well but they’re trying to make it better.” The songwriting is personal: “The song is about the aftermath of a fight I had with a former partner of mine; we wanted the fight not to end the relationship, so we tried to get the “sexy” back in our relationship and keep things going.”
