Met Gala 2021: Fashion Roundup

As stars interpret this year’s Met Gala theme ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’, take a look at the event's best fashion moments.

After a 16-month hiatus due to Covid, celebrities descended on the Met steps once again for 2021’s Met Gala – no longer on the first Monday in May, but rather the second Monday of September – displaying their sartorial take on American independence.

As the notion of what constitutes ‘celebrity’ is constantly evolving, this year’s Met Gala attendees may well be the event’s widest range of guests yet. From sports stars (Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu, hot off the heels of her US Open win) to TikTokers (Addison Rae and Dixie D’Amelio) and Youtubers (Nikkie Tutorials and Emma Chamberlain), the Met Gala is slowly shedding its exclusive reputation and beckoning in a new age of celebrity.

As always, there were some wonderful and wacky looks to behold at this year’s Met Gala. From Frank Ocean accessorising his slime green buzzcut with a matching green robot baby, to Kim Kardashian dressed head to toe in a black shroud-like garment by Balenciaga, to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ white dress emblazoned with ‘Tax the Rich’ whilst attending one of the world’s most high-profile fashion events, Notion dives in with a roundup of this year’s unmissable cream carpet looks. Spoilers: co-hosts Timothée Chalamet, Amanda Gorman, Billie Eilish and Naomi Osaka understood the assignment, Iman is an icon and Rihanna stole the show once again.
