Dublin quartet modernlove. share an exclusive preview of visuals for new track, “Take Me Far Away”, in the run up to their sold-out headline tour.
Bouncing back after the success of their sophomore EP ‘Oh My Mind’ – modernlove. are back on the scene with a brand-new track. Driven by an infectious hook, “Take Me Far Away,” is a climactic build with striking mellow lyricism. Having recently sold-out their debut headline tour – it’s fair to say modernlove. are making big movements.
Made up of vocalist/guitarist Barry Lally, Graham Fagan (guitar), Daniel Rooney (bass), Cian McCluskey (drums), modernlove. were formed in Drogheda, near Dublin, in 2016 by the four childhood friends. Making up for a lack of music scene in their hometown, they built up local popularity playing pub gigs. The moment that this all changed: when one of their self-released demos was discovered by the London indie label Akira Records. Subsequently releasing their debut EP ‘monochrome blue’ in 2021, their music built around the storytelling of young people’s lives: partying, drinking too much, falling in love, and everything in-between.
Produced and mixed by Tom Leach (Lewis Capaldi, Col3trane), newest single “Take Me Far Away,” yearns for escapism through wishful lyrics, seeing the band weave elements of pop-punk into their sound. With videography credits to Greasy Waffle Films, the visuals track the band giving an energetic performance of their new tune in the studio.
Discussing the single, Modernlove tell: “It’s about dealing with mental health struggles while also being stuck in the repetitive monotony of small-town life. It’s a feeling I think everyone can relate to especially after covid. Every aspect of the song is just us venting our frustrations from the lyrical content to the aggressive distortion of the guitar and bass. Hopefully people can take some comfort in knowing that they are not alone in feeling trapped in their own heads and there are always ways to feel better and escape.” The band are set to play their first European shows at the start of October as guests to NEEVE, before headlining Amsterdam’s Paradiso. Catch them on their their debut UK and Ireland tour next month.
