“Nostos” By Sofia Zadar

Making an impact with textually diverse music, Sofia Zadar is blending both the ethereal and infectious together, experimenting with pop music’s sensibilities. Today, the Romanian artist released her emotionally penned new single “Nostos”, which analyses the human capacity of resilience. 

The moniker of Maria Sgarcitu, Sofia Zadar aims to engage marginalised communities through love letters of care and hardship. After having lived in the UK for five years, studying at the University of Cambridge, the singer-songwriter returned to Bucharest and started putting a musical project together.  

“Nostos” showcases Sofia’s more vulnerable side. Combining her signature instrumentation with powerful lyricism, the track expresses a feeling of togetherness that runs through all her music. On the song, she says “Nostos is homecoming, a return to solace, but also opens up the question of how to stay with the trouble and show up when distress overwhelms.” Taken from a forthcoming EP, don’t be mistaken, Sofia is an artist everyone should be paying attention to.
