Last night at the O2 Academy Brixton, Daniel Caesar serenaded the thousands in an intimate and vulnerable presentation of Case Study 01, with a few very special guests.

Pairing the sonic works of Daniel Caesar – ones that are essentially odes to fallen lovers, past and present – and the O2 Academy Brixton could have resulted in the intimacy being lost from the honest lyricism.

However, when Daniel took to the stage last night it was, in fact, the opposite.  Performing his beautifully prolific and journal-like tracks to thousands of romantics added to the rawness that Daniel effortlessly evokes. That’s not to say that the evening was a sombre one. Daniel has one of those rare gifts of being able to fluctuate between melancholy and ecstasy without any disjointedness.

Performing the contemporary R&B record ‘Case Study 01’ along with the classics ‘Japanese Denim’, ‘Get You’ and ‘Best Part’ made for a perfect evening of feeling everything Daniel wanted you to. Singing live, Daniel is a master at sounding as great, if not better, as his recorded tracks. What makes it more special is when he authentically goes off-kilter on certain notes and words that somehow end up hitting your heartstrings even harder.

Already a special evening, Daniel cemented his incredible London performance by inviting our favourite girl Koffee onto the stage for a track. Lovers left more in love, and the main message of the night was one of unitedness and connectivity.
