In Notion Now: Week 8, we have brand new music from Mahalia and Rico Nasty, Alfie Templeman, Lava La Rue, Genesis Owusu, and SG has dropped his debut album, 'times'.

"Jealous (feat. Rico Nasty)" by Mahalia

Mahalia makes her return to music with the slick, badass new single, "Jealous", featuring US rapper, Rico Nasty. “Covid couldn’t stop shit!" Rico states, "so happy to be a part of this record with Mahalia.”

"Heartbreak On The Dancefloor (feat. Frances)" by SG Lewis

SG Lewis' long-awaited debut album 'times' is a beautifully cohesive, no-skip pandemic disco record. "Heartbreak On The Dancefloor", featuring Lewis' longtime friend and collaborator, Frances, is our favourite of the unreleased tracks. It's glittering, twinkling synths and heartbreaking lyrics have sunken into our skin, and will be embedded for a long time yet.

"Everybody's Gonna Love Somebody" by Alfie Templeman

Teenage musical maverick, Alfie Templeman, shares the feel-good, 80s-pop inspired number, "Everybody's Gonna Love Somebody". Written, performed, and produced entirely by Templeman in his bedroom, it was premiered as Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World on BBC Radio 1. The song is a cut from Tenpleman's upcoming mini-album, 'Forever Isn’t Long Enough', out 7th May.

"Magpie" by Lava La Rue

Taken from their 'Butter-Fly' EP, Lava La Rue's focus track "Magpie" fuses slow yet soaring vocals with fast-paced raps. “The whole project was made in a transitional time where I felt like I had finally found my wings and settled into a place where I was able to practice a lot of the things I believed in. I musically had pushed myself further than I had done before, to capture a dreamy emotion of falling in love, entering my 20s, shrugging of the insecurities you carry through your teens and recognising the kind of person I want to be in this world", Lava explained.

"Caution" by KAYTRANADA

KAYTRANADA moves with "Caution" on this pared-back, ambient track that fuses house, disco and funk. It first debuted on TikTok as part of the platform’s Black History Month commemoration.

"This" by Megan McKenna

Megan McKenna made the transition from reality star to full-blown musician when she won The X Factor: Celebrity. Working on her debut album throughout 2020, she's finally shared the first taste, in the shape of piano ballad "This".

"Overdrive" by Master Peace

Genre-blurring artist, Master Peace, has shared this instantly-likeable, guitar-driven song that packs a punch with an anthemic chorus. "Overdrive" finds Peace looking back at the music he listened to as a teenager for inspiration, capturing a feeling of youth and limitless potential.

"Don't You Worry About Me" by Bad Boy Chiller Crew

BBCC's latest effort, Don't Worry About Me, is a typically high octane, high BPM banger from Bradford's favourite bad boys.

"Intense" by Cero Ismael

Amsterdam-based Cero Ismael drops debut EP, 'Blue Man'. The 6ft5 musician explores heartbreak and it's after-effects on the honest record. “My music hits hardest when you’re alone walking home after a late night contemplating about life?. If you listen to my music, you will feel the emotion, moments where you miss your ex even more or appreciate friends whatever that emotion is at that moment in your life. Music where you can be honest about yourself, your insecurities and the ugly sides of live", Cero said.

"TIP" by Stalk Ashley

Rising Jamaican star, Stalk Ashley, shares the mood-boosting pop bop, "TIP". Speaking on the single, Ashley said: "'TIP' is bare vibes and bad bitch energy, it’s really a party in itself. I haven’t been to a party in ages and so I wanted to encapsulate a party feeling into this song so listeners can turn tf up and party in the safety of their homes”.

"Pressure" by Emily Nash

A made-for-the-club banger from 19-year-old rising DJ/producer, Emily Nash.

"Gold Chains" by Genesis Owusu

Canberra-based artist, Gensis Owusu, has been hotly tipped as one to watch this year, and he definitely lives up to expectations with the crunchy, funk-rap track, "Gold Chains".

"DIP N DRIP" by COBRAH

Stockholm multi-hyphenate, COBRAH, shares the dark and propulsive "DIP N DRIP", a cyberpunk reflection on the age of technology. “It’s not actually sexual at all,” says COBRAH. “It’s more about how the struggle is real, how much of a fight it is to do all of this by myself.”

"D.U.K. - Heartbreak" by Imaina

Belgian-Bolivian electro-pop artist Imaina has shared her debut 'Wounds' EP, a sonic chronicling of heartbreak.

"Time I Love To Waste" by MAY-A

Newbie MAY-A releases the second part to the story she began telling with "Apricots", in the form of "Time I Love To Waste", a summery indie-pop number.

"Manic Pixie Dream Girl" by Maeve

Up-and-comer, Maeve, shares this self-written and produced, off-kilter experimental electronic number. "The manic pixie dream girl is a trope that refers to a specific female character in film. These female characters exist to help often lonely, depressed men to live their life and further their character development. This song is about feeling like this manic pixie dream girl trope in real-life, realising it and then rejecting it,” Maeve states.

"Sunflower" by Lagoon Wavey

Stunning falsettos open this track from Barbados-based Lagoon Wavey. ”Sunflower goes into the hardships and difficulties of the emotional connection when letting someone go", he explained.
