Greta Gerwig’s highly-anticipated new film recruits pop big shots Dua Lipa, Lizzo, and Ice Spice.
The star-studded soundtrack to Barbie has just been unveiled ahead of the movie’s release on July 21st. Executively produced by Mark Ronson, it’s a pop-princess-packed lineup to which even Ryan Gosling lends his La La Land-honed vocals.
‘Barbie: The Album’ kicks off with “Pink”, by none other than Lizzo, and one of our latest Notion Now picks, Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night”. It sees queens Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice teaming up once again on an updated version of Aqua’s “Barbie World”. Unlikely contributors Haim and Tame Impala join the pop-heavy line-up, as well as fan favourites Charli XCX, PinkPantheress, and Ava Max.
With just under two months until the fantasy film’s release (yes, we’re counting down the days), momentum’s been building over on TikTok. Trailer cuts and new trends have swarmed the app, making Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s faces a mainstay on the FYP. Ken seems to be the ‘no-thoughts, head-empty hero we were hoping for and the internet’s suddenly animated with Barbie anticipation.
The film follows Barbie as she ventures into the real world, leaving Barbieland behind her. With Ken stuck to her side like a lost puppy, they attempt to find true happiness in a flat-footed, less-than-perfect world. As reported by Vogue, the storyline takes some inspiration from Reviving Ophelia, a 1994 book that details a young woman’s journey through adolescence.
Featuring a stacked cast that includes America Ferrera, Will Ferrell and Dame Helen Mirren, it’s the flick on everyone’s lips right now. For now, buzzing Barbie fans can hit pause on the previews and head below to find the first released track, “Dance the Night”, by Dua Lipa. Until the big day, let’s go party.
