“Scars in the Dark” by Talii

Talii marches to her own beat. Her sound mixes nostalgia and genuine freshness, pulling from sounds you might have heard on turn of the century R&B but infusing them with a sensibility that is both contemporary and highly personal. It’s an approach that’s garnered praise from across the musical board, and made Talii an entertainingly unpredictable one to watch.

 

She pushes forward yet again with her new tune, “Scars in the Dark”. True to form, there’s a timelessness to the sound Talii creates – the classy trap beat and the inviting vocals creating the sense of an artist who’s already become a stalwart on the scene. It’s the kind of song you can imagine inspiring someone just like Talii was inspired by her heroes.

 

On the song, she says, “This song was like therapy for me to write . It was almost like writing a letter of things I wish I said out loud to my ex’s that did me wrong. Like many people, I’ve been through some really shitty relationships in my past . One thing every bad relationship had in common, was even though I would stay longer than I probably should have .. I always got to my breaking point where I woke up and realised I’ve had enough and It’s time to walk away. This is basically that moment in a song.”
