Jessy Lanza curates a 10Trax playlist with songs that inspired her upcoming album, 'All The Time.'

Canadian producer, vocalist and DJ, Jessy Lanza is gearing up to share her third album, ‘All The Time’ on 24th July,

With just under a month to go until the album launch, Jessy has released a second single from the LP, titled “Face.” The inspiration for the song came from watching people’s faces on the New York subway. Speaking on the track, Jessy explained: “I was fantasizing about what everyone was thinking based on their expressions. I found myself projecting my own feelings onto the strangers I was looking at. I went home and wrote the lyrics imagining that the commuters were having telepathic conversations with each other. The questions I imagined them asking each other oscillated from sexual to confrontational: ‘Baby is it just enough? Tell me do you want it all? Baby are you feeling tough? Feeling tougher more than not?’”

Accompanying “Face” is a music video directed by Winston Case. Made during quarantine, the pair used only themselves, their surroundings and the lights they had in the van to create the visual as they drove from New York City to San Francisco to stay with Jessy’s family.

To celebrate the upcoming release of ‘All The Time,’ we asked Jessy Laza to curate a playlist of 10Trax that inspired the record. Check it out below!

Alexander O’Neal - A Broken Heart Can Mend

"I love the chord progression and drum patterns in this song. It’s produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who are two of my biggest inspirations for their songwriting and production. I learned the chords and started to mess around with drums to fit the movement of the chord changes and the song turned into “Alexander” which is the 5th track on my new album 'All the Time'."

Drake - In My Feelings

"I couldn’t escape this song in 2018. It was everywhere - bars, cars, on the subway, etc. The drums are so good and I love the City Girls bit so I sampled that and used it on a track I was working on at the time which eventually turned into ‘Face which is the latest single from the new album."

Kate NV - KATA

"When Kate and I were on tour together in 2017 I listened to her play this song every night for 2 weeks straight and it always made me so happy. I love the vocal melody and the chords and the drums. The production is so playful and catchy. Her album ‘Binasu’ was a huge inspiration for me while I was writing ‘All the Time’. "

Smokey Robinson - Being With You

"The songwriting on ‘Being With You’ is so masterful. I love the changes and the structure. It sounds like an r&b song from the 60’s but with 80’s production."

Denzel Curry - RICKY

"The energy of the song is incredible. The beat is insane and I love Denzel’s delivery. I listened to it everyday while I was making the new album to remind myself of what it feels like when you’re listening to a fantastic song."

S-F-X - Strange Love

"The drum programming in ‘Strange Love’ is so weird and good. I listened to this song as a reminder that there’s no excuse for boring drum patterns."

AceMo - Smooth Move

"I feel so good when I hear this song. When Jeremy and I were mixing the album I listened to it everyday before going into the studio to pump me up for that final stage of finishing ‘All the Time’."

Omar S feat. Diviniti - Games That We Play

"This song is joyful and melancholy at the same time which is a difficult feeling to put your finger on. ‘Games That We Play’ inspired me so much when I was writing the new album. Diviniti’s delivery is so carefree and emotive at the same time."

The SOS Band - Looking for You

"I love Mary Davis’s vocals on this song. The spoken bit she does in the first verse inspired me to do my own talking bit in ‘Over and Over’ from my new album."

China Crisis - Bigger the Punch I’m Feeling

"When Walter Becker died on my birthday in 2017 I spent the day revisiting all of his music and productions. That was right around the same time I started wiring little bits and pieces for my new record and I think this song especially was a huge influence for me while I was writing ‘All the Time’."
