Ahead of his multi-genre second album, Whirlwind of Malevolence - featuring BAYLI, DETO Black, Partiboi69 and more - due this spring, SONIKKU selects us 10 tracks that influenced the project.

'Stereo Love' by Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina

Otherwise known as the Romanian national anthem. I wanted to explore sounds from my heritage to influence the album.

'Long Way 2 Go' by Cassie

I’m a huge fan of Cassie’s minimal and hypnotic music.

'Yeah Yeah' by Bodyrox

I don’t know what it’s called, but one of my favourite sounds is the bass line used in this song.

'She’s a Bitch' by Missy Elliott

I love Timbaland’s production and this whole album is so good.

'A Thousand Nights' by Gregor Tresher

Minimal and uplifting, I love playing this in sets too.

'Rubin' by Oliver Huntemann & Stephan Bodzin

I really like the textures of this song, everything sounds ‘clicky’.

'I Wrote the Book' by Beth Ditto

A SMD-produced track, this song was in heavy rotation on my iPod nano in 2011.

'А может да,a может нет (Sveta - Maybe Yes, Maybe No)' by Света

I came across this song while doing a deep dive on Russian dance pop and became obsessed, a big influence for my song ‘Lipstick Stain’ (on the upcoming album).

'Time Machine' by Robyn

I love the huge chorus here and is a big influence on the pop-y-er moments on the album.

'Pop the Glock' by Uffie

I think this song has probably influenced countless people but it’s so good, I love the layered vocoder vocals.

SONIKKU and Partiboi69 ‘Debaucherous’ is out now. ‘Wonky’ drops March 7th (save it here), and full LP ‘Whirlwind of Malevolence’ out on April 12th.
