East London rapper Berna gives Notion an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes of the making of the music video for "Forty".
Berna’s first freestyle went viral when he was only 16 – a sign of the prodigious talent that had been nurtured with the influence of the likes of Meek Mill, Chip and Skepta. His new tune “Forty” is a sign of the sheer variation Berna brings to all his music – allowing his listeners to delight in his smooth flows whilst facing the challenging aspects of his gritty lyrics.
The music video is a whirling trip through the highs and lows of a London night, contrasting Berna’s comfort zone hanging out with his crew or enjoying the luxury of a Lamborghini with the sudden loneliness that can pass over in an instant. It’s a bold sign of Berna’s wish to put everything of himself into this tune, the good and the bad, the fun and the struggles of being a rapper in London.
On the making of the music video, Berna says, “Forty is about my everyday struggles – police, money and girls; all while bouncing on a vibrant beat. The video sees me patrolling around my old borough Newham and performance shots on the block as well as transitioning to scenes in Uptown…contrasting both sides to my lifestyle – lavish & luxury, but pain and poverty.”
