Beetlejuice's resurrection has begun - landing yesterday, the trailer for the cult classic sequel builds anticipation for fans and Jenna Ortega's new role.

Finally, 36 years later, Beetlejuice is resurrecting, ready to haunt Jenna Ortega alongside another generation of young cinephiles. Yesterday Warner Bros released the teaser trailer for the cult classic’s long-awaited sequel, officially titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which is slated for release on September 6.

Director Tim Burton and star cast members Winona Ryder, Catherine O’hara and Michael Keaton, the ghoul himself, reprise their roles for the follow-up. With the Oscar-nominated filmmaker still at its helm, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice promises to be a beguiling cinematic masterpiece. The trailer reveals fabulous funeral costumes, suspenseful smoke and shadow lighting as well as the eerie sound of ‘The Banana Boat Song’, sung by a children’s choir.

Jenna Ortega, who played Wednesday in Burton’s recent Netflix spin-off of The Adams Family, is the newcomer who brings a third-generation perspective to the Deetz family and their haunted home. Cast as Astrid Deetz, Jenna faces up to the ghost which appears to still torment her mother.

Entering with a new role is Justin Theroux – whose character Rory remains a mystery, though he can be spotted in the teaser’s funeral scene – and Willem Defoe who stars as a police officer in the afterlife, which arouses all sorts of curiosity. Monica Bellucci will be joining in with the chaos too, as she takes up the role of Beetlejuice’s wife.

A death in the family is where the film starts, but how it will thereon unravel is being kept a secret. All will be revealed, with maximum spooks, when Beetlejuice Beetlejuice finally hits the cinemas this September.
