Watch Atlanta-based rapstar Jazz Ingram poetically release his inhibitions with his visceral flows in his latest video "U Turn".
Quite fittingly, Jazz Ingram is the son of the poet, hence his incredible ability to unleash the inner-workings of his heart and mind – whether it’s fury, melancholia or nothingness – into powerful stanzas that stop you right in your tracks. Sometimes violence causes silence, but this is definitely not the case for Jazz Ingram in his latest freestyle video ‘U Turn’.
The latest track and video, released in partnership with 4AD imprint label b4, sees Jazz Ingram unload the weight on his shoulders into a sucker-punch of a freestyle. “I was mad at life,” he explains, “screamed 4 freestyles and then called it a night.” It’s clear that Jazz is blessed with the heavy talent of feeling everything so much and spinning hardships into pure gold. What’s refreshing about someone with the sheer talent that Jazz encompasses is his ability to find otherworldly strength within his vulnerability. Using his bars and spits as his own personal cathartic release – leaving his pain in the words.
Despite his young age, Jazz Ingram inspires wisdom beyond his years. His first induction into the power of rap was by his cousin, Audra the Rapper, who encouraged him to rap over preset beats. Uploading his first single at the age of 15 – entitled ‘Make Em Bounce’ – helped build Jazz a small but devoted online following. That has only but grown extraordinarily especially since Jazz found his creative tribe in his best friend and producer Your Friend, Kami and NYC-based filmmaking collective Land of Tha Lost, who directed ‘U Turn’. Since then, Jazz’s body of work has escalated with an array of sharp, one-minute productions being fired onto his Soundcloud
Now, with two EPs of playful and weird rap singles under his throne, Jazz cements himself as one of rap’s most exciting new voices. Until we can see what this new boy wonder does next, check out the freestyle “U Turn” below and expect to see a lot Jazz Ingram soon.
