Emerging singer-songwriter and producer Merrick Winter shares “Veneer”, the lead single taken from his forthcoming debut album.

Born in the US, Merrick Winter is a lo-fi singer-songwriter and producer currently residing in South-East London. Back with a new single, “Veneer” swiftly follows his indie-folk-infused track, “Motion Picture”.

Having previously worked with the likes of David Ryan Harris, Ariza and Matt Zara, and produced for artists such as Gabriella Eva, and Zoe-blu Shantos, Merrick is quickly evolving his stance as an emerging songwriter and producer to watch. Hot off the heels of a headline US tour with Victoria Canal, the artist is back, and this time is gearing fans up for his forthcoming debut album.

“Veneer” is the first release taken from the album and was written during the turbulence of the global pandemic. Co-produced by Patrick James Fitzroy, and mastered by Alex Gordon, it’s fair to say Merrick’s upcoming project is a collaboration of honoured expertise. Speaking about the single he says: “This was one of those songs that just kind of poured out, both in the writing and in the studio”. Adapting on the process of making the album, he adds: “We wrote out some ground rules for this EP in a pub as I remember, one of which was to be hyper-intentional with each recorded element; to not take shortcuts in the box – 90 percent of what you hear is from analogue sources – a lot of space-echo feedback and tape printing”.
