Watch the first trailer for Wes Anderson’s forthcoming film Asteroid City, featuring an all-star cast of Hollywood muses.

The first trailer to Asteroid City, Wes Anderson’s highly anticipated new film, is finally here. Hitting cinemas on June 16, the movie serves a slice of ‘50s Americana, glazed with beautiful pastel hues and a typically quirky look on modern cinema. Vibrant and vintage, the trailer also reveals a heavyweight cast of Hollywood elites.

The most notable addition to Wes’ cinematic universe is Tom Hanks, playing the role of a father-in-law called in to help his family, who break down on the outskirts of Asteroid City. Striking up a surprising relationship with an actor, played by Scarlett Johansson, as the characters become increasingly acquainted, they realise that an extra-terrestrial being is getting closer to earth and putting the planet’s existence in jeopardy.

Margot Robbie, Rupert Friend and Hope Davis are just a few new names who join Wes’ illustrious cast. Meanwhile, old favourites Willem Dafoe, Jason Schwartzman and Tilda Swinton return to the frame.

Asteroid City follows The French Dispatch; Wes’ open love letter to journalists, set in a fictional French city and starring Timothée Chalamet. It also signals nearly a decade on from the Houston-born director’s Bafta-winning Grand Budapest Hotel.
