Things get steamy between Florence Pugh and Harry Styles in new ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ teaser.

After a few glimpses of Florence Pugh’s and Harry Styles’ characters earlier this year, director Olivia Wilde has shared an official teaser trailer and release date for her highly anticipated psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling. The intense clip sees Pugh (aka Alice) relaxing on a deckchair, drowning, ripping clingfilm off her face, and sharing an intimate kiss with Styles (aka Jack).

Set in a 1950s utopian community in a desert somewhere in California, Don’t Worry Darling follows a married couple, Alice and Jack, as the unhappy housewife begins to realise that her wonderful life may be shadowed by disturbing secrets.

Creating the dramatic film didn’t come without its own difficulties as the feature was originally set to star Shia LaBeouf. However, it was then announced that Styles would fill the role instead, with Wilde praising him on Instagram: “Little known fact: most male actors don’t want to play supporting roles in female-led films. The industry has raised them to believe it lessens their power (i.e. financial value) to accept these roles, which is one of the reasons it’s so hard to get financing for movies focusing on female stories.”

“No joke, it is harrrrrd to find actors who recognise why it might be worth it to allow for a woman to hold the spotlight,” Wilde continues. “Enter: Harry Styles, our Jack. Not only did he relish the opportunity to allow for the brilliant Florence Pugh to hold centre stage as our Alice, but he infused every scene with a nuanced sense of humanity. He didn’t have to join our circus, but he jumped on board with humility and grace, and blew us away every day with his talent, warmth, and ability to drive backwards.”

Wilde also joins the cast alongside Chris Pine, Nick Kroll, KiKi Layne, Gemma Chan, Douglas Smith, and Dita Von Teese.

Don’t Worry Darling will premiere on September 23, 2022.
