Lewys Ball is our newest columnist, casting an eye over everything you might've missed. This week saw Doja Cat continue to troll us all, the rise of Gen-Z’s Princess Diana, $50 Birkin bags and more.

Iconic Look: Doja Cat at Paris Fashion Week

Doja Cat has been known to deliver a camp and OTT music video or look in the past. This time round, she brought this energy to the streets of Fashion Week. First appearing at the Schiaparelli Haute Couture show painted red and covered in 30,000 crystals, she made Kylie Jenner’s life-like lion head attachment look basic. Fans reacted with praise, however they questioned why she couldn’t even put on a lash (mind you, that look was five hours of makeup genius Pat McGrath’s craft). Doja Cat trolled the critique by saying the haters would get a lash, and at Viktor & Rolf she arrived with five strip lashes imitating facial hair. Iconic.

Icon of the Week: Ice Spice

Starting the year by trending in the number one spot on YouTube with music video to “in ha mood”, New York rapper Ice Spice has just dropped her debut EP “Like…?”, including the viral track “Gangsta Boo” featuring Lil Tjay. After being given the title of Gen Z’s answer to Princess Diana, (Callin’ my phone, but they know I don’t answer / In the hood, I’m like Princess Diana)”, she also recently became the face of Beyoncé’s Ivy Park and got a co-sign from The Weeknd. 2023 is the year for Ice Spice and her munchkins.

What To Wear: Birkin Grocery Bags

I may never own a Birkin, and I’m okay with that, but one thing I do have my eye is a Birkin printed onto a grocery bag. Designer Xylk Lorena’s spoof bag epitomises the height of meme-culture fashion, and I hope to be piling my Sainsbury’s weekly shop into a Birkin bag (printed on or not) in the near future.

What To Listen To: “Loose (Part 2)” by Outcast Music, JAY1, Ms Banks

After her EP ‘Bank Statement’ became one of my favourite releases from the last year, I was excited to see Ms Banks join onto UK rapper JAY1’s part two of his single “Loose”. Ms Banks’ feature elevates the track & only furthers her as my favourite female UK rapper.

Who To Follow: Mira Al-Momani

Mira is your go-to to find the most unique pieces and refreshing sense of style. Mira’s content includes her infamous “elevator pitches”, where we get a rundown of her recent outfits from the perspective of the mirror in her lift, and a look into her eclectic bag and shoe collection which has made my wish list almost double in size.

Iconic Moment of the Week: Mugler Haute Couture S/S 23 Show

Arca stealing JT from the City Girls’ handbag was not on my 2023 bingo card, but the Mugler show proved it was possible. Mugler returned to the catwalk this year after the brand opted for their own fashion films the past two years. The show saw iconic models like Irina Shak & Anok Yai take to the runway, plus cameos from Ziwe, Lisa Rina, Symoné & Dominique Jackson.

Not So Iconic Moment: Jake Paul Being Lame Once Again

Molly Mae Hague & Tommy Fury welcomed their first baby into the world this week, an exciting moment for anyone in the UK who watches the show Love Island or falls under the Fiat 500 umbrella. However, the special moment was tainted by internet pest Jake Paul. Paul revealed the pregnancy days prior, but did not stop there, he also posted a not-so nice comment on the new mother’s announcement. Loser behaviour.
