Kizz Daniel’s making music the way he always wanted to in latest release, album ‘Maverick’, out now.
Days after surprising fans around the glove with Becky G’s collaboration on hit track, “Cough”, Kizz Daniel returns with the release of his long-awaited fourth studio album titled, ‘Maverick’. Driven by his creative vision, the 20-piece offering sees Daniel push the bounds of innovation while remaining true to his signature sound. From infectious hooks to his ever-thought-provoking lyrics, each song delivers a unique experience, tinged with Daniel’s own personal experience.
The album arrives two years on from his chart-topping EP, ‘Barnabas’, which brought the musician the coveted spot as Africa’s most streams artist for the first half of 2022. It was a huge year for his career, releasing the biggest afrobeats song of the summer with “Buga”, and performing at the World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar alongside Diplo and Calvin Harris. ‘Maverick’ represents a new chapter for Daniel, though, an eclectic offering with a steller list of collaborators including Becky G, Not3s, and Yemi Alade.
Opening up on his new release, and what it means for him as an artist, Kizz Daniel shares, “A lot of things have happened over the years, and I think it’s time for me to just express myself. I don’t want to prove anything to anyone on this body of work.” He continues, “The only thing that kept coming to my mind when we were making this album was pretty much that I want to do me, and what I know how to do, I want to make music the way I want to make music. For ‘Maverick’, it’s my expression, and I think the music will explain itself. I want to give a piece of me that I have been hiding all this while”.
