The Rated Awards return for a fifth year to celebrate the best of Black British music and culture.
While awards shows can sometimes be dry, the Rated Awards seem set to be a smash. The night will be hosted by the hilarious Mo Gilligan and the effortlessly cool Julie Adenuga and are set to feature performances from a host of stars including Kano and George the Poet.
The awards, which only began in 2015, have grown rapidly. Previous stagings have featured performances from the likes of AJ Tracey and Giggs.
So, who’s up for gongs this year?
Stormzy and Aitch lead the way with four nominations for best male artist, track of the year, video of the year, and album of the year. J Hus, meanwhile, is nominated for three awards, as are Kano, Headie One, and Krept & Konan.
Alongside the musical awards are a number of categories which reflect the broad church of Black British culture. There’s a gong for Personality of the Year, with nominations ranging from host Mo Gilligan to the members of the Receipts Podcast. You’ll also see Radio 1’s Tiffany Calver battling with Charlie Sloth and Snoochie Shy to win the Radio DJ of the Year award.
“I’m looking forward to being part of a night of celebration and entertainment for UK music supporters all around the world,” said host Julie Adenuga.
You’ll be able to tune into the awards on GRM Daily’s YouTube channel or on Ratedawards.com from 9pm on Wednesday 9 September.
