26-year-old singer-songwriter, Sasha Keable, is set to release a much-anticipated new project in 2021. This is her time.
From Latin music and reggaeton dance classes offered through her Colombian mother to metal, rock and soul from her British father, Sasha Keable grew up in a wholly diverse musical environment. Knowing she wanted to pursue a career in the arts from a young age, Sasha attended the prestigious BRIT School, where her songwriting imagination exploded, and her voice matured into a deep, luscious, and soulful sound.
It wasn’t long before Sasha was snapped up by Polydor for a five-album record deal, at the tender young age of 17. Her first two EPs, ‘Black Book’ and ‘Lemongrass and Limeleaves’ were an honest and candid collection of songs that tackled raw heartbreak and showed her prowess for unpacking emotions as naturally as she crafted melodies. However, it was her “Voices” collaboration with the then rising duo, Disclosure, that acted as Sasha’s breakthrough moment.
While it may have seemed like the perfect start from the outside, Sasha was struggling internally from the control and pressures of her management. Thus, she made the decision to step out of the limelight and end her relationship with Polydor. It wasn’t until 2018 – four years later – that Sasha returned with her popular track “That’s the Shit”. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway and Tammi Terrell, Sasha then released her EP ‘MAN’ in 2019.
From supporting The Ezra Collective and Common on tour, as well as selling out headline shows at London venues Oslo and Village Underground, Sasha’s new project is focused on “Transitioning, realising what I need from life, who I am and what kind of person I’m growing into – good and bad – and embracing it”.
It still feels like the best is yet to come with the South London native and her latest project may well fill that spot. We look forward to hearing new music which is sure to offer trademark open-hearted lyricism, old-school soul influences with jazz and R&B leanings. It’s Sasha Keable’s time now.
