Living legend GuiltyBeatz is not only one of the greatest Producer/DJ's to come out of Africa, but he is also breaking borders with his colourful and hypnotic new EP 'Different'.

Pioneer is the word that comes to mind when you think of GuiltyBeatz. Truly, he is one of a kind and is paving the way into a future that many will follow in decades to come.

The rise of Afrobeats has been astronomical over recent years, and it is definitely overdue as the creative scene coming out of Africa, since always, has trickled down into mainstream culture in every shape or form. One of the key figures trailblazing their way into the global stratosphere of culture and influence is the multi-hyphenate powerhouse GuiltyBeatz.

GuiltyBeatz’s production is idiosyncratic and when you hear a GulityBeatz track it is undeniably his due to his explosive and enigmatic creation of beats and tracks that leave you hooked with every pulse. We could write an entire article on GuiltyBeatz’s credentials – from producing hits for Ghana’s biggest acts including King Promise, Sarkodie, R2Bees and Stonebwoy, as well as Mr Eazi (“Keys to the City”), Wizkid and Jesse Jagz (“Bad Girl”) and Ms Banks (“Snack”) – everything he touches turns to gold.

Firmly and dominantly stepping into his own spotlight in 2020 with the release of debut EP ‘Different’, GuiltyBeatz is undeniably a fearless and different artist that is making his mark on the world. The Grammy-nominated powerhouse is standing strong as he continues to level up across the six tracks released today via Banku Music/emPawa Africa.

The EP stands proud in its African heritage, but the global impact it will have across the music industry will be felt for years as GuiltyBeatz proves once again why he is one of the most sought after producers and DJs around.

We caught up with the fearless figure to talk about beginnings, creating some of the best tracks in the world and what’s next for the hero as he continues to walk his own path.

If you could summarise it, what would be the story of how you became a musician?

My journey with music began from when I was a child. I received my first piano at the age of one and adored it, from early I was constantly inspired by the music that was being played at the time whether that be in Italy, where I was born, or in Ghana. So as soon as I was able to, I started making beats on a mobile phone…

How would you describe your sound?

My sound is DIFFERENT…haha excuse the pun, but seriously my ‘sound’ is an eclectic mix of Ghanaian azonto, South African house, and electronic music. To be honest, I like to mix it up and not box myself in as a producer and DJ. I love making music, sharing it with the world, and spreading good vibes!

What was the creative process behind your upcoming EP?

Creating the EP has truly been a labour of love, whilst I was on tour last year and working with different artists, across the world, I would spend time developing the beats. I would take inspiration from the places I would be whether that be LA, New York, UK, Italy, Jamaica or Dubai. A lot of the artists on the project recorded whilst I was with them in some of these places, so each track really was a moment that had been captured.

What are some of your first memories of music?

Receiving my first piano and teaching myself how to play it.

What’s the best part of being an artist? The worst part?

The best part is being able to do something I love and share it with the world and having people connect with it, truly connect with it…like seeing someone do the ‘akwaaba’ for the first time, seeing them vibe to something I made that really is priceless. There are no worst parts I am truly blessed to be able to do something I love and share my passion…it is all about perspective.
