Meet Grime and Rap artist and Virgin Money Emerging Star, Kamakaze, as he gets ready to take on the world.
If you’re a fan of UK Rap and Grime, you’ll no doubt have heard the stylings of Leicester MC, Kamakaze. His freestyles have amassed over 15 million YouTube views and his records have accumulated a whopping 18 million hits independently across streaming services. To top it all off, Kamakaze (real name Matt Robinson) was also the first person ever to feature as a
character on FIFA 20 and have a song on the soundtrack. As well as being selected as a Virgin Money Emerging Star, Kamakaze has rounded off a stellar year in his career by featuring in Pepsi Max’s Christmas campaign.
Before his music career took off, however, Kamakaze used to be a pro footballer, playing as a midfielder for Luton Town. Growing up on a diet of Grime and Hip-Hop, he started writing bars when he was just 12 years old.
The Virgin Money Emerging Stars programme is designed to support young artists as they look
to progress to the next stage of their career amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. This next round of Emerging Stars follows on from a successful launch with R‘n’B and soul singer-songwriter, Aaron Taylor, indie-rock band, Mosa Wild and indie-pop artist, DYLAN.
Louise Hodges, Head of Consumer Communications at Virgin Money says: “Our next three
Emerging Stars to join the programme represent the best new talent that the UK has to offer, and we are so thrilled to have them on board, especially given the challenges and setbacks they have all faced in their careers due to the pandemic”.
Watch out world, Kamakaze is coming your way.
