Drag queen Tia Kofi goes Behind The Base to talk about her move from drag to music while making a tasty pizza, and gives an exclusive live performance of her single "Antidote".
Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK star, Tia Kofi, joins Pizzaioalo Mike in the kitchen for another episode of Behind The Base with PizzaExpress.
Not only is Tia a drag superstar, but she is also a pop queen, having released a stream of successful singles, hitting #3 in the official UK charts.
Whilst the pair are prepping their pizza bases, Tia tells the story of how she got into drag, recalling a musical called Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens. When Tia watched it, she knew instantly that a life of performing was for her.
Not quite a natural at tossing her pancake in the air as she is at a death drop, Tia shares, “Authenticity and being yourself is an ongoing process… You work every day at being you, being real, dealing with your own struggles”.
Layering cheese and chicken on her pizza, Tia opens up about breaking through drag and into a successful music career, revealing that, “It hasn’t happened that often, that people take drag queens doing music seriously”.
Tia speaks about her single “Antidote”, which she gets ready to perform live after her pizza is made. Diving into the meaning behind the song, Tia says: “It’s about coming out of a relationship and maybe finding that new person that you think or hope is going to heal that broken heart, which comes from a very real place”.
