Zak Abel details his forthcoming new album and rise to stardom before performing the heart-warming “Deserve to be Loved”, for the latest episode of Behind The Base.

On the latest episode of Behind The Base with PizzaExpress and Nordoff Robbins, British singer-songwriter Zak Abel takes to the dough, chatting about his journey so far whilst making a vegan margherita pizza. Confidently showing off his pizzaiolo skills, Zak completes the pizza throw and distributes the vegan toppings whilst answering questions about his musical beginnings.

Hinting at a forthcoming album, set for release next year, and a 2023 tour, Zak leaves fans with plenty of questions regarding new music. He also touches on being an ambassador for mental health charity CALM and using music to raise awareness around the topic.

Zak also recalls his early years, writing songs and being influenced by the profoundness of soul music. Many of the chord progressions and melodies he uses today are inspired by the genre. Formerly the number one table tennis player in England, he opens up about previous hobbies and his undivided dedication to them.

While the vegan pizza is in the oven, Zak answers some quick-fire Christmas-themed questions. The artist then talks about “Deserve to Be Loved”, which he later performs in the show. Released on his first album, the track’s heartfelt delivery is a testament to Zak’s soulful nature.
