Amazon Studios is set to reveal an adaptation of the 2005 film next year, this time starring 'Fleabag' creator and star, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino.

Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are set to star as the titular roles in an Amazon series adaptation of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’. The pair will also be executive producers on the show, with support from New Regency, the company behind the original 2005 film starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and Francesca Sloane as the showrunner.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said: “It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team. ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ is an iconic property, and we can’t wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own”.

Glover and Waller-Bridge have previously collaborated in the Star Wars film ‘Solo’. Both have also separately produced projects for Amazon, with Glover’s film ‘Guava Island’ (featuring Rihanna) premiering via Amazon in 2019, and Waller-Bridge’s cult sitcom ‘Fleabag’ having been co-produced by the company.

The new adaptation of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ is scheduled for release in 2022.
