ELIZZA chats to Notion about her latest track "London Eyes" and its vibrant accompanying music video, shot in Notting Hill.

ELIZZA is the musical maven effortlessly mixing genres as she navigates the ever-changing pop and R&B landscape.

Having launched her music career in 2016 with the lo-fi electro-soul single “Mad For You”, ELIZZA then returned three years later with the dancey R&B track “Can’t Quit”. This year, she’s treated us to three songs that embrace a range of modern genres, however – “Want To Keep”, “Habit” and now, “London Eyes”.

Pulling inspiration from pop powerhouses Dua Lipa, Sia, and soulful singer Jorja Smith, ELIZZA blends what she loves to create a sound that is uniquely hers and always on the pulse of modern music.

Her latest single “London Eyes”, is a reflection of the new ELIZZA – “fresh pop, deep but still very fun, edgy”.

In the fun and colourful music video, ELIZZA pens a love letter to the capital city and all the people she loves that live here. As we learn from our chat, ELIZZA wanted the visual to show London through her eyes. Jump in to find out more…

What was the concept behind the “London Eyes” video?

The song itself is a love letter to my city London, the people who this city brought into my life, the amazing experiences it has given me.   In the music video, I wanted to show London from my eyes, and my perspective. The people who understand London would be able to feel the vibe that I feel and for others, I hope this song intrigues them to want to experience it for themselves or maybe even find their own London, their own adventure.

London has given me love, togetherness, strength, and a very exciting and colourful journey, that’s the inspiration and vision for this video.

What was it like on set?

It was a very exciting day for me and hopefully for the team as well. Music video shoots can be very long – but everyone was happy, apart from the cold weather we weren’t exactly expecting that day. Also, it was really fun having my friends on the set and take part in the video, I am sure you can tell that from the friend’s scene.

Tell us about the creative team behind the video?

This was my second time working with the director-producer Elliot Simpson as he also directed my first music video for “Habit”. I couldn’t be happier with the result and how we turned my love letter story into this super cool video which is a perfect representation of “London Eyes”. Elliot – has earned incredible achievements in his career – he has worked on the official music video for UK number-one single – “Head & Heart” by Joel Corry and MNEK and also directed the music video for Joel Corry’s “Lonely”. It’s always a pleasure to work with him!

My stylist – Martina Ghia also played a huge part in the success of this video and we can all enjoy the cool fashion looks thanks to her. Martina is a London-based freelance fashion stylist and her works have been featured in publications like Wonderland, Rollacoaster, Schon, GQ, and clients including Selfridges, Harrods, and Net-A-Porter just to name a few.

During our fittings, we always have more options than needed and in fact, it’s difficult to choose from so many good looks Martina put together. She is brilliant and so easy to work with!

My makeup on the shoot day was done by the make-up artist David Gillers who I got introduced by Martina. We went for an effortless glam look and I loved it!

Not to mention, the video wouldn’t be what it is without my amazing friends cast who are actually real-life friends including my best friend Darta which made it even more personal. I was very lucky to have this amazing team to help me turn my vision into this story and I am so excited for everyone to see it.

How would you describe this single?

It’s fresh pop, deep but still very fun, edgy – just like the new me.

Which locations in London was the video filmed?

We were shooting in London – Notting Hill Gate and Westbourne Grove area. The shoot was taking place mainly outdoors but also in the studio – locations were the iconic Portobello Road in Notting Hill Gate where we shot the friend’s scene, we also drove around the area in a retro vintage yellow Mercedes-Benz top-down from 1972 and all the locations, the cool aesthetics and styling were all complimenting each other.

Talk us through the fashion looks!

I have to thank my amazing stylist – Martina Ghia. She always gets it’s so right and picks the outfits that are SO ME – feminine and strong, edgy with class is how I would describe it. Big, bold, glam in sweet colours.

In total, we had four looks for different scenes – me hanging out with my cool friends, the car scene with retro aesthetics, studio scene in sporty glam, and the evening outfit in Esfand set. Featuring new and established brands such as Charlotte Knowles London, Camilla Ceccardi, Matilda Aberg, SKETCH-Y, Asos, Collusion and Gucci.

You have an EP coming out soon! Tell us what we can expect from the upcoming release….

YES – my debut EP is developing nicely! I don’t usually like to make promises and set dates before the music is scheduled for a release, but you’ll know when it’s the time! Fans can definitely expect strong storylines, an evolving sound, and a range of emotions from ELIZZA.
