DJ, writer and producer, Lou Hayter, picks 10Trax that lift her spirits.

Lou Hayter first made her mark professionally as keyboardist for the Mercury nominated New Young Pony Club, before going on to form the New Sins with Nick Phillips and Tomorrow’s World with Air’s JB Dunckel.

The wait for her own music has been well worth the wait with Hayter now writing, producing and performing her personal tracks entirely by herself. The London artist effortlessly meshes different sounds together; electronic music gets a sophisticated, swooning makeover with “Private Sunshine”. This track is a beautiful new piece of music from Hayter’s new LP that will see you through the winter.

“Private Sunshine” shows another side to the London native, proving a contrast to the propulsive retro-futurist strut of debut single “My Baby Just Cares For Me”. Her off-kilter 80’s funk debut has already gained praise from the likes of Nick Grimshaw, Lauren Laverne, Jo Whiley, Shaun Keveney and John Kennedy.

Now, Lou Hayter has picked 10Trax for Notion that will have you singing at the top of your lungs, dancing the night away or feeling uplifted.

"Fair Chance" (Floating Points Remix) by Thundercat

"I love the original too but this remix just came out and I've had it on repeat ever since, it's so dreamy".

"State of Independence" by Donna Summer

"This is one that I blast really loud and sing along to in the shower when I'm getting ready. My poor neighbours... It has the most epic line-up of backing singers of all time- Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross are in there".

"Playing With Knives" by Bizarre Inc

"Some tunes come on and you feel like you're at a massive rave when actually you're just at home in your kitchen. This tune is so rushy and euphoric. I've loved it since it came out".

"I'm Not Gonna Let You" by Colonel Abrams

"A great one if you're feeling bad, it's an amazing tune but the message is that whatever is going on you're not gonna let it get the best of you".

"Say So" by Doja Cat

"My favourite pop song of the year. It sounds like honey. I love watching Doja Cat's videos, she's such a chameleon and she's really funny too".

"You Don't Know Me" by Arman Van Helden

"It got voted the best house record of all time and I think it's probably true. The lyrics are so uplifting and it's totally euphoric".

"Stuck" by Peven Everett

"I love Peven Everett. His vocal rhythm is mind blowing and I love how he doesn’t bring the drums in til really late on this tune".

"Purple Music" by Prince

"I had a bad quality version of this for years and it finally came out on the 1999 reissue a few years back from the Prince Vaults. It's like finding buried treasure when they put stuff out from his vaults".

"Jump (For My Love)" by The Pointer Sisters

"One of the best HI NRG tunes ever. This one just always makes me dance, there's something about it that's like an aerobics video and if I play it at a party people literally start jump-dancing".

"Could Heaven Ever Be Like This" by Idris Muhummed

"I bumped into my mate at the last Glastonbury at about 5am in NYC Downlow. We hugged and then this came on and we both went mental for the whole thing and didn't say anything to each other til it finished. We both knew every word. It's an epic masterpiece".
