Get to grips with the renowned producer and idiosyncratic vocalist, Ragz Originale, as he leaps into his own spotlight with the impending release of his visionary EP 'txt ur x'.

If you don’t know Ragz Originale yet then you’re just in luck as this renowned producer, vocalist and collaborator is finally about to bask in the light he deserves with his forthcoming EP ‘txt ur x’ to be released in March.

A multi-disciplinary artist, to say the least, Ragz Originale’s talent spills and pours into almost every musical medium with grace and ease – a true marker of the Midas touch. Collaborating with the likes of Skepta and our favourite soulful sorcerer, ELIZA, be prepared for a Ragz Originale 2020 as his production, vocal ability and powerful refusal to be trapped into musical box cements this pioneer as one of our favourites for the year.

The upcoming EP, ‘txt ur x’, is an interactive (yep, interactive) body of work that fixates on Ragz’s past relationship through the benefit of hindsight with the modern dating scene as the landscape we all know and love (and also hate). A highly-conceptualised and contemporary body of work, to say the least, expect a wavering fusion of elements of rap, R&B and alternative electronic music with features from Sam Wise, Mansur Brown and ELIZA.

If producing, writing and singing wasn’t enough for this creative mastermind, you can add innovation to the ongoing list as Ragz leaves no stone unturned in the vision behind ‘txt ur x’. If you’re feeling the blues this Valentine’s Day, you can text the x-hotline on 07568147356 for romantic advice.

Fear not if you can’t hold off until March, Ragz Originale is blessing us today with the release of ‘Jennifer’ which is a perfect concoction of effortlessly crafted slow-jams, R&B textures and, of course, Ragz Originale’s honeysuckle vocals.

Enough from us, get to know your latest Internet Crush below and dig into the official video for ‘Jennifer’ for all you lovers out there.

If you could summarise it, what would be the story of how you became a musician?

I grew up in a musical household – Dad was a jazz musician, mum loved gospel and country, sisters loved RnB. Then here I come along with my grime and hip hop music. I guess I wanted to prove to them my taste was just as good…  Hearing all those sounds in one place made me feel I had to contribute my own perspective.

How would you describe your sound?

I wouldn’t… But I love hearing how other people describe it, that’s my favourite part.

What are some of your first memories of music?

When my mum first moved our family to the UK from Uganda, being so new to the country, she didn’t trust leaving me home alone.
I tagged along to her night shift job every night and she played the same Dolly Parton CD on repeat. It was her only CD at the time.

What’s the best part of being an artist? The worst?

The best part is knowing an idea you had resonated with somebody else out there. The worst part is the ups and downs.

What is something that not many people would know about you?

I can handstand for more than 2 minutes.

What energy do you want to give off when you perform live?

I want to inspire people to be themselves, a lot of the time society makes us overthink. Practice freedom.

What are you most looking forward to in 2020?

I really want to host a ‘Come Dine With Me’ at my house.

What does being in love feel like for you?

The blind leading the blind, you have to accept you have no control.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

Never skip leg day at the gym.

Do you have a favourite lyric you’ve written right now?

Yeah, on one song from my EP, I say ‘If the lady in the mirror don’t recognize you, how she gonna recognize me?’

If you could say one thing to baby Ragz, what would it be?

Keep up the bad work.
